Cherries are one of my favorite fruits and cherry is always the flavor I will choose when it comes to hard candy, taffy, ice cream topping or tootsie pops! I love, love, love cherries! I love them so much that I will stop at almost nothing to get some…..almost.
Every week my friend and I would drive 27 miles to attend our Weight Watchers meeting. After the meeting was over and our minds were filled with nutritious ideas we would head to the grocery store to see what exciting things we could add to our healthy menu so that we could enjoy waving goodbye to yet another pound or two the following week.
On one particular occasion we walked in the door of the store and were greeted by the most beautiful cherries we had ever seen! Gigantic, burgundy, shiny and perfect were all words that could be used to describe what we saw. We both loved cherries and they’re Weight Watcher friendly so before we knew it, we had several bags in each of our carts at the beginning of our grocery shopping adventure. We both needed a few other items but eventually we met up and were lucky enough to each get in a line that had no others before us and we both paid for our cherries at approximately the same time and then we both headed out to the door. Once we began to load our purchases into the back seat, we noticed something very odd. Not only were we both frantically rummaging through our bags for our receipts but we both had rather funny looks on our faces. It didn’t take long to realize her cherries came to around $48.00 and my cherry tally was nearly $39.00! We were in a bit of shock and hashed over what we thought our husbands would say when they found out what we had just paid for a few bags of cherries. It wasn’t long and we were both laughing hysterically and wiping tears from our eyes!
We talked about keeping them and throwing our receipts away but being the honest women we both were, we knew we’d end up telling these guys how much we spent and feared we might both be wearing straight jackets awaiting our one way trip to the loony bin! It was then I came up with a plan. Let’s return them! We have our receipts! This is something I had never done with food before but there’s a first time for everything. We piled out of the van and headed back to the store. We made a quick trip past the cherry area hoping to get some sort of grip on our overwhelming bouts of laughter and we actually saw the price clearly marked for all the cherry lovers to see….except for maybe two!
