I’m sure you’ve heard the words “faith journey” before. People talk about their personal experiences throughout their lifetimes and share stories of how their faith has been strengthened and challenged and even rerouted at times.
I have my very own set of stories and what I find most interesting about my “faith journey” is how the most inspiring and powerful moments approach me. They just show up. It’s not always when my hair and makeup are done. It’s not always when I’m showered and dressed for the day and it’s not always when I believe I have an incredibly firm grip on my own reality. They happen when they NEED to happen.
Today I sat down to add some jewels to a string of pearls my niece will wear for her upcoming wedding day. The string of pearls is borrowed. They belong to my mother. My niece wanted to add some jewels to them to coordinate them with the jewels that are a part of her dress. She wanted to be sure I maintained the integrity of the pearls so the jewels will only be temporarily attached. I reached a point of needing a short break and decided to scroll through facebook. I stumbled upon a video performance of “How Great Thou Art.” I had seen it posted before and I had heard and sang the song many times so it wasn’t until today that I actually watched this video.
As Carrie Underwood began singing, I sat back and began to completely relax. For that moment in time I felt as if nothing else in the world existed. I lost my grip on every bit of baggage I have held for way too long and as the performance continued, I felt a surge of something so powerful within my heart that I knew I not only had to share the video but also share what thoughts raced through my mind.
I realized nothing and I do mean NOTHING is too big for God. I realized at that very moment, prayer should ALWAYS be the very first thing we do in every situation life presents, whether it be triumph or tragedy.
I hope you take the time to watch the video. If it hits you like it hit me you will need some tissue to dry your eyes and if it reaches you like it reached me perhaps you too are in a place in your faith journey that is very similar to mine. God bless you, everyone, and have a wonderful day filled with peace, immeasurable joy and love.
